Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 across the United States who suffer from long-term hair loss due to medical illness. I have personally donated twice and will again whenever  I can, over 15 inches of my own hair to this worthy cause. I've encouraged many friends real time and cyber to do the same, as I am encouraging you now I hope. If you happen to be a cross dresser and think a wig is no longer useful, then please before tossing it to the wayside please consider this organization first. It just might make someone very happy in ways you could never imagine. I cannot begin to understand what these children must have to endure daily with a serious illness on top of having loss of hair too. I doubt if anyone could unless we were in that child's place. Family and friends can offer a great deal of care and love but such a simple thing as ones hair could shatter some bit of strength which might help that child more in beating the disease they have if not just for one more day. We often take so much for granted in life and perhaps even have joke about hair loss but so many do deal with this and it does eat away at their spirit. As I have been blessed with a great head of healthy hair, my  ex-husband was not and I know he lost his hair at an early age of 16 although many people don't care about such things, it did bother him. I have had a few female friends who also dealt with this issue and yes it does hurt them emotionally as adults which makes me really want to do what I can for children dealing with this problem.
